Just so there's no confusion...
MyBlogLog WILL be moving to Yahoo IDs for login purposes in the next couple of months. As soon as possible, actually. I'm going to post this on a weekly basis so that it sinks in.
Also, since we keep getting emails about it, we're still not sure what's going to happen with the name. Some people like it. Some people are confused by it. Some people would like to see it sitting next to the Titanic. Joining the Yahoo! family seems a good time to look for something better fitting than "My Blog Stats" but who knows. We're trying to figure out what would be best for the community moving forward, and if you have any thoughts, drop it in a comment.
Lastly, I'm thinking about going to Coachella this year. A reformed RATM would be a blast to see, but seriously, I'm all about the Crowded House reunion day three. Has anyone gone in past years, cuz I'd love to hear what you thought. And if anyone is going this year, maybe we can hook up at the show.
Does this mean that we will have to create Yahoo ID's to use MBL? Or does it mean we can log in with our existing Yahoo ID's and have our accounts associated with this ID as well?
Names...
1. YahBlogLog
2. Yahoo Blog Site Visitor Tracking and Image Association Engine
3. MyBlogLog
If it ain't broke...

I would vote to stay with "MyBlogLog" if only because it's a catchy name, and easy to say. If you want to add a bit of Yahoo! flare, capitalise the "Y". mYBlogLog!
Hmmm. Can you tell I didn't get the creativity gene? ;-)

Derek -- you will definitely be able to use your existing Yahoo ID to log into MyBlogLog. Or mYbloglog! (thanks geniosity).

That's a real shame because I was just getting used to the community and thinking what a great place MBL was. Then you go and announce a Flickr-esque Yahoo ID policy that's proved SO unpopular it's unbelievable. I suppose at least I didn't have time to get really used to MBL before I had to leave.

I really like the name, and hey, I'm up for some RATM at Coachella! It's always a blast although I haven't been in 4 years. LOL!

I just went to look over the lineup again, and I see Placebo on the same day as RATM. Hmmmm, looking more and more interesting :)

3 comments in a row, and no I am not spam. I just wanted to let you know I gave you some love here - http://www.utterlygeek.com/2007/02/01/mybloglogcom/

Eric,
I'm not sure if you saw the private comment I left you the other day, because I've noticed that your comments area is pretty abused, but I've started a MyBlogLog Yahoo group so that we can have discussions about issues just like this.
I posted about it on my blog (http://onemansblog.com/2007/01/30/new-mybloglog-yahoo-discussion-group/), and here's the link to the MyBlogLog User Group - http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/mybloglog/.
Although the ability to leave comments is a good thing, it doesn't quite compare to the ability to actually have two way dialog between members.
Feel free to spread the word if you feel it's appropriate.
Cheers,
John

I am not so hot on the Yahoo ID thing either.
I will w00t with everyone when a small startup with a good idea gets bought out, but when they sell out and force old users to be a part of a community they don't wish to join... that's another matter all together.

I like the name too :)

I came over because Julie wrote about you on her geek blog. I love MyBlogLog the way it is, other than a needed update in graphics. If you yahoo-itize it I am not going to be very happy. I HATE having to sign in again with flickr when I JUST signed into my email not five minutes before that. I will admit that I was scared when I heard about the take-over.

I'm hoping I'll still be able to log in using my RACF id.
How about, "Thing You Log In To 15 Times a Day to Check Your Stats".

I love the name MyBlogLog!!

The Yahoo ID doesn't bother me one bit however I love the name MyBlogLog and now that everyone has gotten used to it would be poor branding to change it!

i like the mYbloglog idea.
if only Yahoo had an analytics general purpose tool in the same way that Google did - you're most of the way there, at least in data gathering, and way ahead for the simple presentation aspects.

... and yet, I can't get MBL widgets working on my Yahoo!360.
I'm a Yahoo user, so I don't care about closer Y! associations. But I've been talking up MyBlogLog. Changing the name seems like poor marketing. In a word: you guys do better than Yahoo. Don't lose what makes you great!

I agree with suni.. Yahoo got signing in all wrong! For example, I signed in to MBL once when I created an account and the cookie lets me skip that process forever. Maybe a choice of the two accounts in the log-in screen would be a better option?
Posted by: ilker | February 05, 2007 at 01:15 PM
Well maybe with all the feed back that is given in places like this, Y will make some changes. Maybe myblog log, flickr and Yahoo can all be synchronized so you can log in via your YIM. A little Myblog logo on the IM...
Posted by: PixelHead | February 05, 2007 at 09:02 PM
I like the name, and I don't like Y-IDs breaking cookies etc. However, if you stick with MBL I accept the Yahoo-ID ;)
On a side note: when will you fix the somewhat broken signup process? Since a week or so I get the PayPal message #3504:
"We are sorry, we are experiencing temporary difficulties. Please try again later. If this error occurred while making a payment, avoid duplicate payments by checking your Account Overview before resending a payment."
I can pay with paypal at other places, so I guess the problem is yours.
Thanks
Sebastian

State I love MyBloLog as is, even if understand those business reasons that force to migrate in this or that group, it annoys users. I joined MBL few days ago and I was happy to have found a new Community... That terrible mistake.

I'm with the folks above. I find myself not using Yahoo products nearly as much because I quickly get frustrated about having to constantly keep signing in again. I hate to use the dirty "G" word here, but over there you can bounce around between most products with just one sign in.
I'm just saying.

Oh no! Not the dreaded Yahoo ID! ughhhhhh!!!!
Posted by: James | February 09, 2007 at 01:45 AM
For godsakes, PLEASE don't force us to use Yahoo IDs.
The day I'm forced to use an Y!ID, is the day I leave MyBlogLog. Sorry.

Really consider keeping the name. It has a good rep out there on the net, and changing it to anything Yahoo may "alter" that rep. I'm all for the buyout, but....???

Do whatever you think is best. You surely have our support. More power.

Yahoo ID? yeeeps! I mean congratulations on a great site with unlimited community building potential - but....Yahoo ID?
Posted by: Bob Glaza | February 13, 2007 at 03:58 PM
think the whole yahoo business is a shame. I understand it's business but it's already starting to mess up mybloglog. I have lots of so called admirers who are basically wanting to have thousands of contacts. How can i delete these publicity seeking leeches?
plus, yahoo ID no way. Thank you for mybloglog, it was great while it lasted.
Yours,
Tomas

Yeah, I hate friend spammers too. But that's not a function of Yahoo!'s involvement but just a result of getting larger enough for people to care about gaming the system. We're always interested in hearing new ways to combat this behavior.

Does this mean we can look forward to face-link spam?
