MyBlogLog is relevant once again
Oh. My. God. Do I love being relatively done with Yahoo! integration tasks and moving back to site improvements, or what! This evening we'll be rolling out our first revised sorts of communities and community members.
Up until now, members' communities were sorted alphabetically, which didn't provide any real information or additional context. Worse, it encourage people to rename their blog in order to game their position in line (!!!!!!!! Blogmemes, I'm looking at you, buddy).
Similarly, community members have been displayed based solely on when they joined the community. Again, there's nothing useful to be gleaned here beyond the list of community members. And again, it's prone to gaming -- the first person to join a community always shows up first, so it's in an SMO's best interest to join communities early and often.
When you look at profile of someone who is a member of 50 communities, it's super helpful if they are sorted based on some sort of meaning. Same thing when looking at a community with 200 members -- how do you choose which people to click on (and don't say "the ones with the bouncing breasts"). Later today we'll be sorting these in a new way that will hopefully bubble the most relevant people to the top of the list. Best of all, because relevance is dynamic, the order of these lists will change over time so that the most interesting people and communities will be presented to you.
This is just a first swipe, so expect many more changes in the future as we refine this, and don't hesitate to give us feedback (like you would ever hesitate) about how we can filter this info even better. In the future, expect to see several tabs on each section, so that you can sort the information in a variety of ways -- relevance for me is not necessarily relevance for you.
So for now, be aware that it's coming today and that the order of things will change from what you are used to seeing. Don't be alarmed, be frickin' excited. MyBlogLog is back and we came to play, baby!
(A special call-out to ilkeryoldas, who clued us into the whole gaming communities and contacts.)

Stunning news!
Finally you have resolved the alphabetic ordering of communities. That was driving me nuts (not just because my community starts with a "U" but because I thought there were only 6 communities that anyone ever joined!
However the really interesting bit of news is this relevancy idea! I'm not a great networker, but spending time finding other bloggers that have nothing to do with what I am interested in just put me off trying. Now I'll get a much better idea of who I am looking for.
Thanks Eric! Great to hear that you're back and making some stunning improvements!

I'm against the 20 message limit, but I'm totally for this. I'm frickin' excited!

Thanks Eric,
The idea that someone is "gaming" or playing the system to become more important brings the idea of relevance back to online communities, which is important. I am glad to see that the integration with the Y! platform is complete. So, when can we we see you marketed better by Yahoo?

There are a couple of things I'd like to see on your blog: a search feature so I can search for past posts (rather than go through all the archives to see if what I'm looking for is there), and also a link to previous posts so I can move backwards through your blog.

Perhaps, a decision based on alphabets, date, and personal likings, or similar...can be resolved and solved based on performance. Performance in general is a member who add value to MyBlogLog e-community. specifics can include, involvement, participation, commitment, quality, principles, and more.
