One Less Password to Remember
Although some of you felt the growing pains today (sorry), we are proud to announce that MyBlogLog now supports Yahoo IDs! We've been anticipating this release for a long time so the we're really psyched to finally get this out to you. As Robyn said earlier, there are a number of great things about this. The highlights:
- Fancy new image uploader for userpics (5MB image? No prob!)
- Userpics hosted on Yahoo's global image cache = faster performance on your widgets
- Update your screen name by yourself, it's now called a nickname
- Your nickname is the same across several Yahoo sites
- Share optional info such as your age, gender, and location across Yahoo
- One less password to remember
In order to merge your account, you need to either edit your profile or logout and log back in. This will drop you into the merge process which is real quick (believe me, we know because we tested it hundreds of times). Because the Yahoo image cache supports high-resolution images, you'll need to re-upload your userpic so have a nice photo ready beforehand.
High fives all around to Todd, John, Chris, Steve, Manny, Robyn and the Yahoo folks that helped make this happen. We're pretty sure we've worked out all the kinks but one can never be sure. If you find anything, please leave a comment below.
Time to go buy John a nice, cold beer.

All is not well yet, the main sign-in picture after signing out wasn't displaying after 2 refreshes. Also, I got a suspicious website warning and in IE got a "Would you like to display the unsecure content..."

I can not upload a jpeg.
Posted by: Scott Rafer | September 20, 2007 at 07:36 PM
@Adam - we're aware of the phishing alert on IE7 and are working on getting this fixed.
@Scott - jpeg uploads should work (just confirmed it on Firefox, IE7, and Safari). Let me know if you still have problems.

The MyBlogLog site loads really slow for me right now. But I know these migration issues are normal so I'll just wait. Anyway, it's good that my Yahoo! ID can now be used in MyBlogLog. And I'm one of the first to blog about this. Yay!

I can't get into my account! I need access to my stats! I've been trying to merge the accounts and I end up at someone else's page. ARGH.
I hope this all gets fixed soon because this information is really important to me!
Thanks to Robyn for responding to my concerns so quickly!

Is there any way to get back into my account WITHOUT having to create a yahoo account? Are we forced to sign up with Yahoo?
Posted by: Vanessa | September 21, 2007 at 11:01 AM
@Vanessa - No, we shifted the login process over to Yahoo so that we can offload a large chunk of support requests which were about lost passwords and the like to Yahoo Customer Care. This will free up Robyn and the team to spend more time on working on new features.

That Yahoo! have changed the login to "expire" in 2 weeks is not good. One of the biggest strengths of MyBlogLog was the fact that each time I visit someone, my pix appears in the widget. Now, when it "expires", I don't appear. Sort of defeats the whole concept. Yeah, yeah, i know, login again. There. How convenient, only ONE login to remember, but login all the time. Bah!
Posted by: Calvin Warr | September 22, 2007 at 07:04 AM
@Calvin - the appearance of your userpic on someone's site is tied the a cookie on your PC and not to whether you are logged into MyBlogLog or not. Your logged in state is only checked when you do something on the site like join a community or edit a profile.

It's NOT one less password to remember if you don't already have a Yahoo! ID.
You assume everyone already had a Yahoo! ID.
I got mine today, but only because I'm not turning my back on my x4 pro accounts until they're due for renewal.
You need to come up with some fancy new features to get me to part with cash again.

I've found it totally frustrating. I try each day to reupload my picture & it's still not working.
Site has also been loading really slowly. With the new Yahoo It says it will keep you logged in for 2 weeks if you don't log out.... doesn't work. Logs you out if you come back a few hours later.
Hopefully they will fix the picture upload problem... apparently I'm one of the few 'lucky' ones who have the smiley face avator as default...& I assure you I'm not smiling!

it caught me by surprise one day when i tried to log in, this is something that i wasn't expecting. my phishing filter came on and i wasn't sure what to do at first. then i figured it out.

I can't seem to log in. I have a Yahoo account, but its not attached to my origial Gmail login. So your plan B: the ability to add another Yahoo account is not helpful. Please help.
Also, after being on MyBlogLog for 2 months. I could care less that John Chow is doing well!!! Your opening page is effectively an permanent (and i would add totally boring) ad for the 6 blogs that stay on top. Blah! Sorry. Just my honest humble opinion. This top level worship seems to be the anti-thesis of the web 2.0 spirit. Home boy doesn't need your advertising, either.

Guys, thanks for your patience. We knew there would be glitches, as with any big move, but we really appreciate your hanging in there with us.
Anyone who is having continued errors, please email me at robyn@mybloglog.com.

Well, I made the switch the other day and now can't remember the Yahoo ID I created and their recovery system is impossible.
So I am locked out of my MBL account effetively.
I give up - trying to get my ID via Yahoo is hopeless.
It seems my time with MBL will come to end... it's far too hard to get my login sorted. Bleaahhhh.
What can ya do.
Dave ....

But every time I get redirected to the yahoo page to sign in I get a warning that says this is a phishing site posing as Yahoo and not to proceed.
What's up with that?
I've been trying to use mybloglog for two days unaware that you "insiders" were working a deal. So now I understand more, but still will not proceed. What if this is true?
Posted by: Martin Calle | September 27, 2007 at 11:54 AM
@Martin - I'm sorry about the phishing error you're getting (I assume you're using IE7 which is the only browser that gives you this error). IE7 is picking up on the fact that we jump from an https url to an http url (secure to insecure) during the merge ID process.
We are working with Yahoo on a resolution for this but it may take some time. Rest assured we're not phishing for any information and this alert will only come up once during the merge process and never again.
@ Dave - I'll get someone from Yahoo to get in touch with you about your Yahoo ID.

To bad I'm not able to login using mybloglog username,, where is the login for this ? I don't want to sign up for another account using the yahoo system..
thanks
Posted by: Brandon | October 31, 2007 at 06:51 AM
@Brandon,
We've integrated authentication with the Yahoo authentication servers so we can focus more on new features and less on boring old forgot-my-password type questions. You can merge your MyBlogLog ID with an existing Yahoo ID if you don't want to create a new one. Hopefully that simplifies things for you!
